Duration of Trekking: 22 Days || Maximum Altitude: Kala Patthar 5545 Meters || Difficulty Levels: Extremely Difficult || Activity Type: Trekking || Starting Point and Ending Point of Trekking: Kathmandu

The world is huge, ever changing, sinking, dipping and rising atop everything that seems tangible to our quaint fancy.  Nepal, is the kingdom of uniquely chiseled mountain tapestry, where a momentary glimpse is enough to transform your eternal soul and present it in an astute magnification. Sagar Matha, or the popular Mount Everest is home to festivals and rituals all the year around, and mountaineers revel in these festivals.  Mani Rimdu Festival is a key festivity that coincides Tibetan New Year (Lhosar) and celebrated with extreme cheerfulness in the Everest landscape.  Likewise, there is Sagarmatha National Park festival and the Sagarmatha Festival Nepal that propounds exquisite culture and emblematic presence of people from across the continents besides the local populace.

Mani Rimdu is a pristine region within the larger part of Mount Everest belt. The utopian landscape holds immense virtuosity alongside its historical, cultural and the spiritual worth. Among many vibrant activities that hold the momentum around the festival, Everest Mani Rimdu Trekking holds the key focus and involves the trek to Gokyo Lake and Kalapathar. Major celebration points include the popular monasteries comprising Thami, Chiwang and none the less Tengboche.

Mani Rimdu Festival – The Grand Annual festival of Sherpas

Mani Rimdu is seen as a reformation of significant theological events including the founding of Buddhism in Tibet by the revered Saint Rimpoche. On the eve pf the festival, monks embellish the festivity by hosting performance in gaudy masks and attires.  Catching the glimpse of the festivity is comparable to the aura of Mother Nature.

The starting of Everest Mani Rimdu Trekking Festival is titled– Org, when the monks or the Lamas offer prayers in the monastery. On the subsequent day or the Cham, there is a besetting aura created out of the dance performance by Lamas, who are dressed in gowns with embossing and special pattern and sophisticatedly painted 'Mache' coverups.

Several Sherpas travel from the Khumbu region and become the part of this garish performance and also represent the social juncture. Unlike the other types of Sagarmatha Festivals celebrated in Nepal, Everest Mani Rimdu Trekking marks fun, ecstasy and staging of sequences and traditional art forms with subtle movement of limbs and parts of body.

The grand finale is observed with all the gleeful smiles and wonders, and it is nothing less than a carnival.  The final day of celebration is attended by the mountain climbers, local villagers and denizens from different regions.

Mani Rimdu in Thame is rightful representation of the spring and is observed on full moon, falling in the mid of month of May.  The festivities celebrated in Thame are seemingly more vivacious and fuller of umph, and this happens only for the reason that Rimpoche (Reawaken the Lama) at Thame follows liberal form of celebration and this is sufficient to ignite your soul.

Celebrating Mani Rimdu Festival at Chiwang gompa, Solu

Mani Rimdu Festival at Chiwang gompa, Solu is celebrated during the time of autumn on almost the same date when Tengboche is enjoyed. The celebration out here is considered authentic than other Mani Rimdu Festivals for the very reason that it is presided over by the Lama of Thubten Chooling, known to be reincarnation of Rongbuk Lama, also believed to be the origin of Mani Rimdu.
