Upcoming Routes & Flights Between USA And India

As more people start flying again after the pandemic, airlines are making changes to their routes. Air India, Etihad, United Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Lufthansa are some of the airlines adding new flights between the USA and India. They're not just starting new routes but also increasing how often they fly on existing ones. This means more options for travelers with both non-stop and connecting flights between USA and India. Let's take a closer look at these new USA-India routes & updates.

New Air India USA-India Routes

Air India has passed a plan to introduce over 400 new weekly flights starting November 2023, with approximately 50 percent of the flights serving international destinations.

This includes an increase in weekly frequencies on various routes: 

• Mumbai-Singapore will rise from 7x to 13x

• Delhi-Bangkok from 7x to 14x

• Delhi-Dhaka from 7x to 12x

• Delhi-Newark (New Jersey) from 3x to 4x

• Delhi-San Francisco from 10x to 11x

• Delhi-Washington D.C. from 3x to 4x

• Delhi-Copenhagen from 3x to 4x

• Delhi-Milan from 4x to 5x

• Mumbai-Doha from 7x to 9x. 

Air India is also planning to start flights to Seattle, Los Angeles and Dallas during the winter schedule of 2024-25.

New United Airlines USA-India Routes

United Airlines is set to bring back its suspended routes to India. To compete with other airlines in the US-India nonstop travel market, the airline will resume its nonstop service on routes to India that were previously suspended due to restricted access to Russian airspace. The Chicago to Delhi, Newark to Mumbai, and San Francisco to Delhi nonstop service is scheduled to resume at the end of 2024. But, the exact dates for the resumption of these flights are yet to be announced.

To meet the increasing demand for direct travel between the northeastern US and India, United Airlines is planning to increase the number of nonstop flights from Newark to New Delhi. By the end of 2024, United Airlines will operate two flights daily between Newark EWR and India Gandhi International Airport (DEL).

New Lufthansa USA-India Routes

In June, 2024, Lufthansa will start operating five weekly flights from Minneapolis. This means people in Minnesota will soon have the option of one-stop flights to India from Minneapolis, not just with Air France but also with Lufthansa later in 2024. Also, Lufthansa's new travel cabins, including Premium Economy seats, are expected to be introduced around the same time in 2024.

Lufthansa is extending its reach in India by adding Hyderabad as its newest destination for flights from the USA via Frankfurt. Starting January 2024, Lufthansa will fly to HYD RGI Airport with five weekly flights. This service will provide one-stop travel to Hyderabad for residents of Charlotte, Detroit, Denver, and Orlando. Lufthansa is one of the few non-American airlines serving these U.S. cities. This marks Lufthansa’s comeback to the City of Pearls after the suspension of services in 2011.

Flights to Bangalore from Raleigh are also on the airline’s plans, with six weekly flights expected to start in 2024.

New Air France USA-India Routes

Air France recently launched a new route from Raleigh which offers connections to India through Paris. Presently, American Airlines and United Airlines (with its interline partner, Air India) primarily operate flights from Raleigh to India. These airlines permit international travelers to check in only one bag for free. Air France's thrice-weekly service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport presents a convenient alternative to two-stop itineraries starting in Charlotte.

Minneapolis is the next addition to Air France's expanding network in the United States. Flights from Minneapolis are set to commence in mid-2024, although the exact launch date has not been confirmed yet. Additionally, the airline plans to boost its thrice-weekly service to and from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to five times a week.

New Turkish Airlines USA-India Routes

Turkish Airlines is introducing new routes connecting the USA and India. Among the significant developments influencing travel between the two countries (in 2023) is Turkish Airlines' latest offering from Detroit, with connections to India through Istanbul. Flights from Detroit to India by Turkish Airlines were scheduled to commence in November 2023, with service operating thrice a week, set to increase to four times weekly in 2024. Notably, Turkish Airlines becomes the first Middle Eastern carrier to serve Detroit in the Midwest.

New Etihad Airways USA-India Routes

Etihad Airways is adding new places in the USA and India to compete with other airlines. After saying Boston will be its fourth place in the United States, Etihad is getting ready to start flying to two new spots in Kerala this winter. In mid-2024, you'll be able to fly with Etihad from the USA to India through Abu Dhabi to Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram.

Apart from this, the airline is also planning to start new routes connecting USA and India soon. 

New Kuwait Airways USA-India Routes

Kuwait Airways is opening up a new route from the USA to India. Flights from the USA to India by Kuwait Airways started flying from Washington Dulles (IAD) in December 2023. After New York JFK, Washington Dulles becomes the airline's second gateway in the USA. The airline will fly this new service from Washington DC three times a week, smoothly connecting it to Delhi and Mumbai through its hub in Kuwait City.
