Traveling to the world’s strongest and prosperous economy is one of the finest options out and available to the tourists from across the globe. B-2 Visa is exclusively meant for social activities like tourism. Tourist Visa is a Nonimmigrant Visa offered to the travelers for temporary stay.

Caveat: Birth tourism is not allowed and illegal on Visitor Visa, just in case the traveler is entering the USA with sole intent of giving birth to an offspring.

Process of Application of the Visa

The application process for filling B 2 Visa is simple and straight forward. You need to fill the online visa application form DS-160 and complete application for the visa online and finally print the application, stapled nicely to present it before interviewer.  Make sure that you have uploaded your most recent photograph and it should fulfill the essential requirements of the photograph completely.

Visit the US Embassy or Consulate website and follow the instructions as provided on the website. Please make sure that you do not miss any field, or else you will not be called for interview.

Interview Schedule at US Embassy or Consulate

You have broken your leg if your interview is scheduled at US Embassy or Consulate. The Visa Officer may or may not schedule your interview.  If the applicant is of 13 years of age or less, the interview is likely to be waived off.  The age span between 14 and 79 years of age require an interview, with a few exceptions depending on case-to-case basis.  Applicants who are octogenarians may also not be called for the interview at the US Embassy or Consulate.

In general, the interview is scheduled at US Embassy or Consulate of the applicant’s country.  There are occurrences where your interview is scheduled outside the country of your origin or where you were born, but in all such situations, it will become confounding to show your qualifications and eligibility to the Visa officer.

Pay the Designated Visa Fee

It is mandatory to pay the Visa Application Fee, which is Non-refundable.   The fee should ne paid in complete before the interview and online.  In addition, if the Visa is approved by US Embassy or Consulate, then you also have to pay the Visa Issuance Fee, which again depends on your nationality.

Prep up for your Interview at US Embassy or Consulate

The date of your interview at US Embassy or Consulate is filled with both TANTRUMS and EXCITEMENT. You feel vacillating in between the two of them.  Here are a few typical questions that are doled out to the candidate who is applying for Visitor Visa to the USA:

  • Confirm your name, identity and contact details.
  • When do you plan to travel to the US?
  • Who will be travelling with you?
  • How long will you stay in the US?
  • What is the purpose of the trip?
  • What are your plans while in the US?
  • Where you will be staying in the US?

Note: The applicants who are applying B 2 Visa have high chances to qualify if they show their ties abroad/to their home country instead of exaggerated assurances from the US family and friends.  It is important to note here that even if you provide the letter of invitation or Affidavit of Support, the Visa officer may still not consider it as key determining factor for ither issuing or denying the visitor visa.

Prerequisite Travel Documents

It is also mandatory that you have all your travel documents handy at the time of the interview.  Here is a quick note of the travel documents that you should always carry:

  • Valid Passport to the USA
  • Form DS-160 confirmation page
  • Application fee payment receipt

Entering/Not Entering the USA

“The Tourist Visa” is document that allows a Nonimmigrant Traveler to fly to the US Port of Entry, which is usually “The Airport.” Once the tourist lands at designated international airport in the USA, s/he will request for the grant of permission, necessary to make entry to the USA.  Holding “The Tourist Visa” does not mean that any international visitor is guaranteed entry to the USA.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials available at port-of-entry have the obligatory rights to either permit or not permit entry into the USA. In case the entry is granted to the visitor, the CBP official shall stamp on the passport and provide Paper Form 1-94 with due Arrival/Departure Record.

Supernumerary Information

  1. The visitor gaining entry to the USA either on B1 or B2 Visa shall have no permittance or authority to either sign full time or part time employment contract from any company in the USA.
  2. The US Visitor Visa is still valid on an expired passport.
  3. Make sure you have a Valid Visitor Visa before working on your final travel plans.

The Verdict

Follow these basic instructions while filling the B-2 Visa application form and make the headway to world’s biggest economy.  And finally, you are not only traveling but adding the most inspiring and scintillating experiences, which are not easy to come your way.
